Deformed square tube after 100 mm of crush in OpenCourant, coloured by plastic strain, next to the crush force versus displacement curve

code_aster vs OpenCourant (ex-OpenRadioss): the right solver for the job, tested on four cases

We ran four structural problems with code_aster and OpenCourant on cloudHPC. Impact and crash belong to OpenCourant, static and creep to code_aster, and the error messages show why.

Deformed Toyota Yaris finite element model after a 56 km/h full-frontal rigid-wall impact in OpenCourant, cutaway coloured by plastic strain

OpenCourant crash simulation: a 1.5-million-element Toyota Yaris at 56 km/h, from 8 to 192 cores on cloudHPC

We ran the 1.5-million-element CCSA Toyota Yaris LS-DYNA model in OpenCourant on cloudHPC: 45 g peak deceleration, 591 mm crush, and 85–95% parallel efficiency up to 96 cores.
